My personal favourite. It was used in the ’92 World Cup and the ’93 season with Bloomfield. The ball is rested on the palm and pushed out by the mound of Venus. The result is muffled backspin that causes the ball to stay low. It works particularly well in overcast conditions. The spin is subtle, and not sharp.
Mathew’s most famous dismissal with the undercutter was Javed Miandad, who, so annoyed by the umpiring and the unplayable delivery, jumped into the crowd to hammer a cheeky spectator with his bat. |
